There’s something about those first few days with a new little one, whether in the hospital or at home, that feels like a dream. Exhaustion plays into that feeling a bit (okay, a lot), but I’d like to think that it’s also from a blanket of euphoria, stemming from the realization that your life has just been completely changed for the better. Despite the sleepless nights, seemingly endless crying, vomit stained clothes, and being pooped on….that tiny bundle has improved your life more than ever you thought possible.
Now here’s why I have the best job in the world – families have invited me into their hospital rooms or homes to capture that fog they’re living in with their new bundle of joy. So that, when the fog has lifted and they’re left thinking “who is this 6 month old and who stole my newborn?!,” they have a set of images to trigger that memory of the first days of life. And selfishly I love that I get to experience that sweetness of a newborn in my (now with older children) well rested state – and promptly hand them over when the crying starts;)
