Hospital Newborn Session on Black and White Film

Bart and Megan are old friends and the first couple who trusted me to take their engagement photos.  I often say that because of them giving me such encouraging feedback, I felt comfortable walking into the world of wedding photography!

Needless to say, it was an honor when they asked me to photograph the arrival of their first daughter; and because there was an understood level of trust they had with me, I felt comfortable bringing along the film camera I use with own family to take a few images.

Using my favorite black and white film, I ended up loving the resulting images more than the digitial. Maybe it was the grain, the slight blur and nod to embraced imperfection, the focus on the emotion over color, or simply the fact that film makes one value quality over quantity.

Whatever it was, I loved these so much that I’ve made the decision to bring along black and white film to all hospital newborn sessions in 2017, so take a peek below to see what may result from a future session.
